Theme Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11
Here we are just a few days before Christmas 2012. This is a time when there is usually a magic in the air, an excitement for friends, family and good cheer. Usually, that is the case – but not this year. No, not this year. Something happened, and as a result the giddy joy is gone. We have suffered a great loss. A few short days ago, an unimaginable crime was committed and 27 people, 20 of them 6-and 7-year old children, had their lives taken from them, brutally and without mercy. Today we honor their memory and recognize the pain of their grief-stricken families and friends. Today we also search to find how the hope of the true meaning of Christmas can give us – all of us - strength to cope, strength to stand, and strength to begin to move forward.

Theme Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1
Ours is a time of technology and knowledge. With the breathtaking advances of our time also come breathtaking predictions of earth shattering events of epic proportions. Such is the case for this coming week, for it has been widely publicized that the ancient Mayan calendar ends on December 21st and therefore the world ends with it. Such an end, whether by coronal mass ejection, planets colliding or magnetic pole reversals of the earth, would be a horror as only seen in sci-fi movies. Some believe, some doubt, some fear and some laugh. Should we be taking this seriously? Doesn’t the Bible prophesy the end of the world? Were the Mayans right?

Theme Scripture: 2 Peter 3:13
We all have had the experience of making or receiving a promise that was not kept. When you think about it, the experience is a sad one, for with a broken promise comes some level of a damaged trust towards the one who did not deliver. Over time this can lead to all kinds of deep and permanent damage to our relationships. What makes a promise? How do we better keep our promises? What about God? What had He promised us, and is He keeping His promises?

Theme Scripture: Proverbs 17:20
Did you ever stop to think how much of our lives are built around our habits? The words we use, the thoughts we think – driven by habit. Our morning routine...a habit. The time we arrive at work...habit. Our actions and reactions to our co-workers...habit. What we eat, where we eat, how much we eat...all connected to habit. How we treat our spouse, our family, our friends and acquaintances – you guessed it – all connected to habit. So, if such a large portion of our lives are based in habit, then we ought to understand what makes a habit and most importantly how to better our habits!
