Ep.558: “Thou Shalt Not Covet” – Why Not?
Breaking down the aspects of coveting
Theme Scripture: Exodus 20:17
We live in a time where wanting something is a good thing, and why shouldn’t it be? After all, our own Declaration of Independence states that each human being possesses the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This seems to indicate that pursuing those things that you want so you can be happy are good pursuits. Further, our country was founded upon the biblical principles of the Old Testament Law, so on the surface there certainly seems to be a contradiction here. Stay with us as we look into the Tenth Commandment and its intended meaning. Thou shalt not covet, but why not?

Ep.557: What Can We Learn from the Prodigal Son?
Primary and secondary lessons from this parable
Theme Scripture: Luke 15:11-12
Outside of the parable of the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son is probably the most widely known of Jesus’ parables. It is a classic story of youthful self-centeredness contrasted with fatherly wisdom, complete with a twist at the end. Now the question is, what was Jesus’ primary reason for telling this story? Who was he speaking to and why did they need to hear it? What can we learn from the Prodigal Son? Stay with us as we open up this parable and find its value, both in the days of Jesus as well as in our day.

Ep.556: Can You Win the Battle Against Depression?
Dealing with depression in our day
Theme Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13
Every one of us has been depressed at one time or another. We have all had the experience of that feeling of hopelessness or uselessness, that feeling of both physical and emotional lethargy that holds us captive to a “might as well give up” attitude. For some of us, we experience it, get over it and move forward. For others, it is an entirely different story. For these people, the darkness of depression is an unwelcome yet constant companion, showing up uninvited and staying for far too long a time. For a Christian, this issue can be an even greater challenge than for others. How do you deal with such an issue? Is this battle against depression winnable? Stay with us as we look into this difficult subject and what the Bible says about fighting this battle.

Ep.555: How Do We Honor Motherhood?
Motherhood on Mother’s Day
Theme Scripture: Luke 2:51
Human nature can be a funny thing sometimes. We can have things in our lives that are valuable and important, things that make our lives happier and more fulfilled. What often happens with these things is after a while we take them for granted. They become familiar and commonplace so the shine begins to fade and we get to a point where we may not even take notice anymore. Well, these are some of the reasons we have a day set aside to honor mothers, for mothers are the classic example of a most vital element of life being drowned out and forgotten in the noise of our harried and busy lives. So, this morning we will remember – we will remember the value of motherhood, and the contributions and examples we have from some mothers in the Bible. Stay with us and help us honor motherhood.

Ep.554: What Did Jesus Teach Us to Pray For?
The proper use of Prayer
Theme Scripture: Colossians 1:9
Have you ever thought of the magnitude of the concept of prayer? Consider this – the concept says that the believing human being who lives a comparatively small life on this comparatively small planet has the comparatively enormous opportunity to communicate with, to praise and to petition the Creator of all things. If you look at this prospect in this way, it is a monumental thought. That being the case, it should occur to us that there must be some significant guidelines for this process to be able to work effectively. Are there “rules” for prayer? If there are, did Jesus teach us what they are and how we could most effectively work with them? Stay with us as we look into the process, purpose and power of prayer.
