Should We Be Worried About Witchcraft?

So, if you are a little kid it’s time for the excitement of “trick or treat” – costumes and candy. If you are older it’s time for parties, horror movies that look and feel so real they make your skin crawl, the undead, dark spells and generally unfettered behavior. Yup, we are talking about Halloween and all of the trimmings that come with it. Here is the thing – no matter what age you are, when Halloween comes it is also time for a strong and convincing dose of witchcraft. That’s right – no matter what age you are, witchcraft is not only entirely mainstream, it is enticingly mainstream and very much within reach. So, is this something to be worried about? Are we dealing with some big, dark and deceiving practice or is it all just harmless home-brewed storytelling?

How Bad Can White Witchcraft Be?

In just a few days the costumes will come out, the candy will be distributed, the parties will roar on! The ghosts, the goblins, the skeletons – the superheroes, the princesses, the ballerinas – all will engage in a happy celebration of Halloween – ironically the night where pagan tradition says the veil between the spirit world and our world is thinnest and therefore can be crossed by evil spirits…great! Halloween is based on paganism – Wicca - white witchcraft - is an outgrowth of paganism. So, is Wicca something that we should be afraid of?

Trick or Treat – Really?

So, it’s fall and once again we are all gearing up for the big holiday. You know the one – it’s the holiday where kids rule and get stuff, where everyone suddenly seems to be in a giving mood and for one night anyway, freely gives to anyone who passes by. It is the holiday where adults can be more like children and all seem to be willing to step out of their normal roles. Yes, it is that jolly holiday called Halloween! Halloween – you know, the night when darkness, death and horror are center stage and evil is king! Okay, so, which is it? Is Halloween a good holiday or a bad one? What should we do with it?

Why Do We Celebrate Death and Witchcraft?

The time has come. The time when candy becomes a dietary staple, kids stay up and are out late running throughout neighborhoods collecting candy, disguised as anything from Ninja Turtles, to Frankenstein to princesses to monsters to political figures, ghosts and aliens. If you are a kid, it is pure fun. But the older you get, the darker the source of the fun. At some point for many, this fun now takes on stories of death, darkness and devilry. Obviously, we are talking about Halloween. What is it about this holiday that brings out so much that seems so sinister? Stay with us – you may be surprised!

Can White Witchcraft be Good?

Boo!! It’s that time of year when ghosts, goblins, skeletons, witches and sorcerers overrun not only our neighborhoods but much of the TV and movie industry as well. Soon they will all go back into hibernation until next year - all except witches, that is. Should Halloween Make Us Happy?

There are some things that most everyone has in common. One of those things is our collective desire to celebrate.
