Is unity easy? No. Jesus warned us of “wolves in sheep’s clothing”. The rest of the New Testament alerts us to the dangers Jesus’ followers would continually face. Christian unity would be challenged by smooth talkers, worldly minded leaders, vain philosophies and false doctrines. Unity with those who promote such things is not what Jesus wanted. Would Jesus and Muhammad Have Agreed?

We live in very touchy times. Whether it is debating political positions or arguing for more of what we believe are our rights, or standing against those who want to do us harm, there are multiple ways of looking at these things. Religion is no different. Did you know that about one half of the world is either Christian or Muslim? That’s a lot of people! Kinda makes you wonder – with so many people professing to follow either of these paths, would the founders of these paths, Jesus and Muhammad, have been in agreement with one another?

A few weeks ago, we began looking into Islam to try and understand what its principles are as we witness the effects of radical Muslim extremists on our world today. We examined Islam’s peaceful approach to life and some of the similarities to Judaism and Christianity. This morning we will ask: What about Jihad? Who exactly was Mohammad? Who was the promised seed? What about Sharia law? What’s the difference between Sunni and Shiite?
