So, what is Halloween about anyway? Is it all about the costumes, the candy and the parties? Is it all about the social connections of people actually seeing and talking to other people or the excited grade school kid who gets to dress up like a video game hero? Or is Halloween all about the dead? Is it all about communication with the spirit world, fire festivals and the dark arts? Can dead souls really “cross-over” the boundary of our physical world on this unique night? What is real and what is not? Where did this all start and what has it become? There is a lot more to this than you might think!
A few weeks ago we began to look at the nature of the soul as defined in the Bible – not as defined by traditions or mythology or different social groupings - but as defined by the Bible. What we found was the Bible clearly states that the soul – the being of man and animal - is mortal and subject to death, which is the absence of life. This program looks at Scriptures that seem to contradict this conclusion, as well as the difference between "soul" and "spirit." What does the Bible tell us?
(Part I of a 2-part series) Death and taxes – two sure things for us in this life. Now, with taxes we can always try and avoid them – we can shelter our money, make less money, get a better tax advisor – you know – we can play the game and sometimes even come out ahead. With death there is no game, for it eventually finds every one of us. The only question here is what really happens when you die? Do you leave your body and go someplace or are you dead – really dead – as in not alive, not aware, just plain ol’ expired? As you already know, such a question has many different answers – stay with us as we attempt to establish a biblical perspective on the matter!
Life is a precious, miraculous gift from God. Having life is a sacred charge to live fully, cleanly and in a God-honoring fashion. So, what happens when we die? Does our soul immediately go off somewhere else and continue an unending cycle of life – or do we die – literally get our lights clicked off until a time of resurrection? For most Christians, there has been for centuries, a very clearly stated answer to this question of the events after death. But, what if...? What if there was biblical evidence pointing to a different answer? Stay with us as we look into this challenging, emotional and controversial subject!
To a large degree, human beings are somewhat of a mystery. It is amazing how much we know about our form of life and it is even more amazing how little we know about it. What about the human soul and the human spirit? What are they? Can they die? Can you have one without the other? What about the body? Where does that fit in? Does a soul need a body? Does a body need a soul? Stay with us as we look into the scriptural definitions of these things to try and find the answers. For such an old book, written over such a long period of time by so many different writers, it will amaze you how clear the answers are to these questions!
Death and taxes - two sure things in life. Interestingly, we have little control over either. Seeing that this is not a financial program, we won’t talk about taxes - but we will talk about death. Great! What a depressing topic! What is death all about anyway? Do we immediately go somewhere when we die – meaning we actually don’t die, we just change form? Or do we die, cease to exist, when we expire? On this podcast we look at a topic that surely affects us all to determine what the Bible teaches on the subject. Is death the beginning or the end? Lets’ see…
