Why did God create planets other than Earth?

The Bible does not give us any indication of God’s intention with the other planets, or for that matter, the other galaxies in our universe.  We are told that all of God’s creations are intentional and purposeful – nothing was made in vain, so we can only happily speculate that He will put them to good use. 

Perhaps they will be used for exploration into infinity, to make sure earth is not overcrowded when the billions return from the dead, or perhaps they will be special learning classrooms.
