Theme Scripture: Matthew 4:19-20

When we hear the word “cult,” we generally don’t get a very good picture in our heads. For many of us, we envision some fanatical group enticing and manipulating young people to leave their homes, denounce their past as unclean, sever their relationships with their family and join with other “disciples” in the following of some charismatic leader who has a golden tongue, an iron grip and an agenda that somehow ends up being all about the leader and not about anything else. So, is this accurate? Is this what a cult is, or are there other variations on this theme that are not damaging? Stay with us as we look at this fascinating and serious subject in general and as it relates to Christianity.
