Ours is a day of openness, availability and communication – sort of. We can stay in touch with friends and family on a moment by moment basis, follow news as it happens and even tap into the spirit world pretty much at will. Wait a minute…what? Tapping into the spirit world – is that something good or could it be horribly evil, even though it might look good? Stay with us as we look into a dimension beyond our own to find out what is really happening out there…
It happened just a few short weeks ago, but by now we are almost de-sensitized to the horror. In many ways we can feel like it’s just another story of a senseless killer randomly taking lives. But it’s not – what it is, is a chronicle of a world filled with inequity and evil, in which those who are innocent suffer and die and there are no real answers as to how to stop it. Is there someone to blame? Is it parenting? Is it education? Is it religion? Is it atheism? Is it freedom? Is it guns? Is it easy access to violence? Is it God? How do we begin to put these tragedies into some perspective? Stay with us – there IS an answer!
The Avengers movie has been a box office sensation, breaking all kinds of records. Why? Good movie, good story, good special effects and (wait for it!) superheroes...lots of superheroes! We all love looking up to those who will stand for what’s right and save the world. We all especially love the fact that these heroes, while super, are flawed as well and they still fight for what is right! Does God’s plan for humanity include such heroes? Who would they be? What would they do? Would they – could they - save the world? Stay with us!
"Trayvon Martin"...mention that name and you unleash a flood of emotion and turmoil. This young man was tragically shot to death at age 17 and his death has raised a firestorm of controversy. Was it self-defense? Was it racially motivated? Should his killer have been arrested immediately? Will there be justice? These are all questions that we have no answers for – sorry! What we do want to discuss though, is the emotion, reaction and desire by some for vengeance. Is vengeance ever appropriate for us to take? What if justice is NOT served? Does vengeance give closure? What does it really mean to leave things like this in God’s hands? Are the Old and New Testament different on this? Stay with us as we look into this important question.
We live in a world of battles and contradictions. We have political battles, philosophical battles and moral battles. We have battles between nations, peoples and religions. We battle disease, cold and hunger. We battle ourselves. And we battle against evil. We battle against the dark, treacherous and sin-filled paths of evil. And if that isn’t enough, that battle also takes place with powers that we can only imagine, both for good and evil. We will look at the powers of darkness – the powers of evil as expressed through the demons who inhabit our atmosphere.
Is right always right? It may seem like a simple question, but it really isn’t. The good news is, we live in a society of great freedom. The bad news is that this society of great freedom does not put nearly as high a value on great responsibility. Responsibility means doing the right thing – but what is the right thing? Does my definition of "right" spill over onto and affect your actions? Who or what determines “the right thing?” Is “the right thing” a moving target, or is it a stable and firm destination? Stay with us as we discuss right, wrong and moral standards.
The devil is pretty popular these days. Think about it – his name and influence come up in all kinds of places – we have ʺdevil’s food cakesʺ – why? I LOVE chocolate, but I don’t like the name! You have heard the phrase “the devil is in the details.” Or what about, “I had a devil of a time?” Then of course there is “the devil made me do it!” Movies and television often glorify the devil and what he stands for – I mean, does the devil REALLY wear Prada? So, what does all of this mean? Should we be worried that the devil seems to have permeated our lives? Who is he anyway? How much of an effect does he have on our lives? Stay with us as we look into the origin, the description and the objectives of the devil. What should we know about the devil? Plenty!!
It seems that for all of the recorded history of man, there has been slavery in one form or another. Today when we look upon this subject, it is often with sadness and disgust that at one time, not so very long ago in our own country, we as a people allowed such a practice to flourish. Not only did we let it flourish, but there were those who insisted it was a God-sanctioned practice, therefore justifiable! What is the truth on this matter? Does God or did God ever advocate such a practice? On this podcast we look into the biblical history of slavery and servitude.
