Jesus knew when his time would be up and his sacrifice would be complete. He knew – down to the very hour – he knew. He understood the pain and suffering that awaited, and he also understood the immense difficulty and challenge that would unfold, not only for him but for his followers as well. So, knowing all of this, what did Jesus do to prepare himself to overcome? Where did he go, how did he act and what did he say? Stay with us as we observe what our Master did to prepare to finish his walk of sacrifice, so we can learn how to handle our own…
Friday was the day to celebrate love! Valentine’s day! From the little candy hearts that say “Be Mine” to the big box of chocolates, from the gifts and the cards to the dinners out and the special time together, it was a day of appreciation, a day of expression and a day to be perhaps more vulnerable than normal – not to mention a day that retailers live for! So, what is love – what is marriage? Do they still go together like a…you know…So, how are we doing these days with love – not just with one day of celebrating, but with our everyday living in love?
A few weeks ago, we opened up the ever volatile topic of gender roles, the Bible and the 21st century. From what most of us know about the Bible, it sure doesn’t seem to fit in today’s world when it comes to defining men, women and their relationships today. In this program we will continue to look at several Scriptures that sound harsh in their treatment of women as well as focusing on the questions: What did Jesus do? How did Jesus treat women and did the apostles after him follow his lead?
Oh boy! Here we go, right into the belly of the beast called equality! Why do we call it a beast? Because it does appear that gender equality is grossly misrepresented and misunderstood! Belief in equality is key, but should men and women, in all things, be consistently measured with the same yardstick? We ARE different – science proves this! So, what gender roles are biblical? Should these roles be updated – after all, the world is an entirely different place than it was back then – or is it? Stay with us!
Just think – in just a few days the anticipation will be over and we will get to finally open all those presents! We will finally get to see if we will get what we really wanted or if we end up with some lame gifts… Wait a minute! Has it really come down to THAT? Have we taken the value of the day on which the world acknowledges the birth of its savior and made that day so small as to be about ME? The good news is – there is still time! We can still find the real meaning! Stay with us…
The Thanksgiving holiday – it is a most misunderstood and misapplied American tradition. We all love the day off, the gathering of families and friends, the abundant food and the design of the day for leisure, but what was it originally? What was the reason for that original feast back in 1621, and what was the intention of the United States government in maintaining the November celebration? Stay with us as we look into some history, some Scriptures, some music and even some humor as we focus on Thanksgiving. Is it just a holiday or is it a way of life?
Freedom is a good thing. Freedom to choose, freedom to act, freedom of thought – all good things. Our society touts this right of freedom especially in the case of a woman’s right to choose. Freedom though, without responsibility – this is NOT a good thing, for it takes the liberty of freedom and applies it with no boundaries – and without boundaries there can only be anarchy. So, what is the balance between freedom, responsibility and a woman’s right to choose for the Christian? Does the Bible tell us?
So, it’s fall and once again we are all gearing up for the big holiday. You know the one – it’s the holiday where kids rule and get stuff, where everyone suddenly seems to be in a giving mood and for one night anyway, freely gives to anyone who passes by. It is the holiday where adults can be more like children and all seem to be willing to step out of their normal roles. Yes, it is that jolly holiday called Halloween! Halloween – you know, the night when darkness, death and horror are center stage and evil is king! Okay, so, which is it? Is Halloween a good holiday or a bad one? What should we do with it?
In this past week America has celebrated her birth as a nation and the 230+ years of freedom that followed. How did this American experience get its start? What was on the minds of those singular men and women whose lives were put on the spot, tested and changed so many years ago? What role did faith – Christian faith - play in all of this? Stay with us as we look back and see…
There have been many world changing events in human history. The printing press made knowledge accessible to the masses. The light bulb literally illuminated man’s course and fed an industrial revolution which brought previously unthinkable invention and convenience to many. Penicillin protected life in a new way. These and many other events changed man’s course and were breathtaking in their scope, yet limited and even restricted in their reach throughout history, for each of these events could only touch those then living or yet to be born. There was only one event at any time in all of history that would alter man’s DESTINY – all of man’s destiny, from Adam and on through all of the civilizations ever experienced, on an eternal scale. That event was the life death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! It is that event that we celebrate today.
