A few weeks ago we began a conversation about racism and its origins. We talked about the mythical “Curse of Ham” which led to a mythical subduing of the black race. All of that said, we also looked at some history and effects of racism over the last 1500 years and asked plainly, does God show any kind of a racist approach to humanity? This week we want to continue looking at this difficult and sensitive subject through the lens of scriptural understanding and truth.
Love, marriage, tradition and happiness. As time goes on, these four timeless elements of our world seem to be drifting ever further apart from each other. It is almost as if we are at a point where we are not really sure what to believe in or how to believe in it. Well, stay with us because on this program, we are going to look at the tradition – the godly institution of marriage as a proven vehicle that carries with it love and happiness…love and happiness! Isn’t that what we all want?
Atheism – for many of us who profess Christianity, even hearing the word conjures up a need to defend oneself and one’s faith. Sometimes we envision an Atheist as one whose objective in life is to ridicule not only us but the mechanism of our faith. And not just the mechanism of our faith, but the very object of our faith – God Almighty. So what do we have? We have envisioned Atheism as an enemy – as an object of our disdain…but wait a minute – Jesus clearly taught us to love our enemies, so what does that mean? Did Jesus himself love those who profess Atheism – did Jesus die for Atheists? If so, then how should we show them the love of Christ?
“Selfies” – a modern day phenomena of simplicity and ease. The concept is simple – take pictures of yourself so the world can see you as you choose for it to see you. What could be wrong with that? After all, it is your life and you should have control over it, right? As with any luxury of life, there is usually a basic thread of goodness somewhere within it, but as with any luxury in life that thread of goodness can and usually is overrun by excess and pride. Do “selfies” represent this excess and pride and if so, how do we reset ourselves back to a clearer reality? Stay with us and find out!!
Racism – it is one of the hardest, most emotional and divisive subjects in our present culture. Understanding what it means, where it came from and how to deal with it are some of the many pressing questions that surround this issue. One of the utterly false reasonings that helped to provoke our modern day racial experience is “The Curse of Ham." What does it mean, where did it come from and how do we know that it is wrong? Let's find out!
Happy New Year! Happy new beginning! Happy new opportunity to resolve to make changes in your life once and for all, only to be shot down later by the steady force of habit, life and expectations later…wait a minute...that’s not happy! The truth is, for most of us a new year and a new beginning spells disaster and defeat. How can we approach change in a way that offers different results? Well, stay with us – we have a few ideas and a textbook (the Bible!) to back them up!
'Tis the season to be jolly! Christmas happened just a few days ago so we ask the question, what really happened? Did we have lots to eat – see lots of family and friends – give and receive lots of gifts? Did we smile and laugh and decorate? Did we watch Christmas specials and listen to all kinds of holiday music? I hope we did! I hope we took the time to reconnect with a spirit of love, life and giving. I hope we entered into the happiness that this season brings! Now the big question – how did we recognize the true reason for the season – how did we honor the life to change all lives? Well, if you are looking for more of that part of things, stick around – we have a story to tell!!!
