Do the Fires of Hell Come From God? (Part III)

The world is messed up. If you believe in God, then you most likely believe in some sort of ultimate justice system. The question is, what does God’s system of justice consist of – what kind of penalty? For generations, the majority of Christianity has believed in a hell of fire and torment as the answer to this question. However, there is a mountain of biblical evidence to the contrary. On this program, we will embark on Part III of our series that examines this evidence. We will look at some of the really difficult and seemingly contradictory Scriptures that talk about the condition of those who were evil in this life. Do they go to hell? Is there fire and torment in hell?

Do the Fires of Hell Come From God? (Part II)

Several weeks ago we began to talk about the destiny of sinners as described in the Bible. In Part I of our series, we looked at the biblical phrase “weeping and gnashing of teeth” - who it applied to and when. We found out that it really has nothing at all to do with any kind of eternal punishment. In Part II, we look at an even more pointed biblical phrase – “Hellfire.” Where does it come from, how is it used and is it referring to eternal torment and torture? Stay with us!

What is the History of Hellfire?

Sometimes we as Christians just don’t see eye to eye.  We all (hopefully) take the doctrine of Christ seriously and want to abide by the word of God, so when we come to a subject that is widely interpreted, we have a dilemma.  The concept of a Hell of Torment is one such topic.  There are many views on the matter but today we want to look at it through the eyes of history to see if we can find the threads of truth and separate them from the threads of error.  You may find this surprising!  Stay with us!

Are Most People Really “Hellbound?” (Part II)

Five weeks ago we began a discussion on the highly controversial topic of hellfire and the Bible and whether or not these two belong together. We based that conversation on a 2012 documentary entitled “Hellbound?” written and produced by Kevin Miller. Kevin joined us for that discussion as we mainly focused on the Old Testament and non-biblical history. Well, Kevin is back with us for this follow-up as we reopen the book on hell and the very piercing question – are most people hellbound?

Are Most People Really “Hellbound?” (Part I)

Christianity is a faith that claims to see the mind of God through His written Word. It claims to represent a God of love and compassion, yet a God of justice and consequence as well. All Christians are unified in the belief that the true followers of Christ will be rewarded with immortal life in heaven, yet Christianity is amazingly fractured in its belief about what happens to everyone else – which constitutes the vast majority of all humankind. Do unbelievers suffer in merciless agony for all of eternity in the fires of hell? Do unbelievers experience the fires of hell as a purifying fire that brings them to Christ? Do unbelievers simply experience utter destruction and cease to exist upon final proof of incorrigibility? Stay with us as we seek biblical truth on the matter!

Is Hell Real?

One of the more difficult tasks of Christianity is understanding the future judgment regarding those who do not come to Jesus in this life. There are many different and contradictory teachings that we as Christians have drawn from the Scriptures regarding this judgment. On one hand, these range from the teaching that they will mercilessly burn in the torture of hell forever, to the other hand which says that God is far too loving to hurt or destroy anyone forever. This morning we will open the book and look critically at what we think the Bible actually teaches on this matter. Is hell real?

What About Hell?

There are certain questions that everyone, no matter what your faith affiliation, wants to know about. One of those questions has to do with our direction in the afterlife. What kind of a destiny might be waiting for us? Does what we do in this short life dictate what will happen forever? There are many denominations of Christians and there are along with those, many interpretations regarding the answers to these questions. What did Jesus teach us about our destiny after we die? Stay with us as we look into some of Jesus’ teachings on this all important matter of life!

Did Jesus Teach that there is Fire in Hell?

Jesus came to redeem the world from sin. In so doing, there are many details of judgment and ultimate destiny that remain to be answered. Jesus did tell us much about these details and the interpretation of what he said is, as always, varied. Did Jesus describe an ultimate end result of judgment as a burning place of torment, or was he describing something else? Stay with us as we look into one of the more dramatic and controversial interpretations of the Bible – is there a hell of torment or is it something entirely different?
