Judgment Day! The very words strike fear into the hearts of many believers across the borders of many religions. After all, this world obviously does not dole out any form of true justice to its vast population, and whatever God you may believe in surely sees this and will soon balance those scales that are presently so skewed in their measure. Justice! For many believers there is a conviction that God’s justice will soon come to earth in the form of anger, wrath and fire and bring the result of a destruction never seen upon this planet! Judgment and Justice – are these images of mayhem and obliteration really what the Bible describes? Is this world in for a dark and miserable night of pain from the wrath of God from which there is no tomorrow or is there an entirely different meaning and result of Judgment Day? What does the Bible REALLY say?
History does repeat itself. Sometimes in its repetition we can see the heartbreak of the transgressions of the past repeated in the present with an even deeper and more insidious result. Look around you and what do you see? Shootings, stabbings, bombings, race riots, gangs, rape, murder, genocide; Black lives matter, police lives matter, all lives matter but what does it matter? Politicians lie, people lie and so many lie unnecessarily in early graves. Save the whales, save the schools, save the planet, save the children, but save them for what future? Muslims against Christians, Christians against other Christians, and seemingly the world against Judaism while the Atheists say, "I told you so." Women's rights, animal rights, civil rights, gun rights, LGBT rights - so many rights, but everything still seems so wrong. The world has become dangerous and angry. Their clamoring for peace is drowned out by the ever increasing clamor of violence. Where. Is. God? Does He hear? Does He know? Does He care? Has God completely lost control of our world?
The Rapture is one of those Bible teachings promoted by some that draws all kinds of attention. It is dramatic - millions of people all just vanishing at the same moment! It is sobering – what is left behind is a world that rapidly sinks into chaos and destruction! It is scary – God’s judgment pronounced in an instant and you are either in or you are out! But the question is – is it true? Is this a real and legitimate teaching of Scripture we should truly heed or is it a fabrication of the minds of men based on a misrepresentation of Scripture? Let’s find out!
The Bible often tells us what is going to happen before it happens. Sometimes its prophecies are very specific and sometimes they are shrouded in symbols, but in all cases they tell us about the future. So, what is the future? Our world has come to a point where it has the capacity to destroy all living things. What is going to happen with this great power? There are several Bible prophecies that can be interpreted to not only verify this destruction but seem to graphically describe it as well! Are we headed for nuclear holocaust? Does the Bible verify such a horrible end? Is this all in God’s plan?
It kind of funny how there is such a movement against the Bible and biblical principles these days, yet things like “Armageddon” and “Judgment Day,” which have their basis in Scripture, are common themes in our society. Of course, society dramatizes these things way beyond the reality of Scripture, so what we perceive is generally not what will happen. So, Judgment Day – it is coming! What does that mean? When will it happen? Who will be judged? Stay with us!
Judgment Day! The very sound of the phrase previews an ominous picture in the minds of most. Judgment day: a day of great regret, great wrath, great sorrow and great reward, both for the righteous and the unrighteous. All will receive what is coming to them on Judgment Day – the question is – how does it all work? Is Judgment Day really a day to be feared by the multitudes of sinners in our world or is it actually a day to look forward to? Stay with us!
Ours is a time of technology and knowledge. With the breathtaking advances of our time also come breathtaking predictions of earth shattering events of epic proportions. Such is the case for this coming week, for it has been widely publicized that the ancient Mayan calendar ends on December 21st and therefore the world ends with it. Such an end, whether by coronal mass ejection, planets colliding or magnetic pole reversals of the earth, would be a horror as only seen in sci-fi movies. Some believe, some doubt, some fear and some laugh. Should we be taking this seriously? Doesn’t the Bible prophesy the end of the world? Were the Mayans right?
By the accounts of many, the day in which we live is different than any other time in the recorded history of the world. Never before has there been so much by way of knowledge, science and medicine that can heal and restore yet, never has there been so much by way of brilliantly formed destructive forces as well. We are blessed with technology and its work saving power yet we are cursed by its power to feed the basest of human desire. We are blessed with greater freedom for more of the masses than ever before, yet we are cursed with the abuses greed and inequity that such freedom unleashes. Are these the perilous times of the Bible? Stay with us as we look into Bible prophecy and current events to try and determine where we are on the timeline of God’s Plan.
Remember this past May 21st – according to Harold Camping the day that the rapture was supposed to happen? Since that “no show” all the air has gone out of Harold Camping’s “prophecies” and attention is no longer focused in that direction. The fact is that the “other half” of his “prophecy” was that the earth would burn up on this coming Friday, October 21st. While we won’t focus on Mr. Camping this morning, we will focus our time on God’s Day of Judgment upon this earth. Exactly what is the Day of Judgment, how does it work, what does it accomplish and when it might come to pass?
Last week we discussed God being the inventor of green - we looked at many scriptures that helped us to understand that God's intention is not to destroy the Earth, but to in fact preserve it. There are many scriptural symbols used, such as "mountains," seas," "heavens being burned up," and others. We then looked at the great time of trouble predicted. So, if God isn't going to destroy the physical world, why is it in such turmoil now? There is another important aspect of this called the Day of Judgment. This program will build upon 1) the fact that the Earth abides forever, 2) the fact that the Scriptures a talk about a great day of trouble, and 3) is the Day of Judgment in the time of trouble or are they two separate events. And what happens after Judgment Day?
