Tomorrow is America’s birthday – it was on the 4th day of July in 1776 that a document was signed in Congress that would inevitably change the course of world history – that document was the Declaration of Independence. What was it? It was a series of statements and decisions made to declare that God has given all men the right and freedom to pursue “life, liberty and happiness.” This call to freedom rang out here in America and has been ringing ever since. As we look back today, we ought to ask ourselves about our freedom – is it still the same kind of freedom the founders envisioned or has it become something else? Stay with us as we look into America, freedom, choices and God’s role in all of these things!
It was a long time ago – about 2000 years when he came. The world was going on just as before when he began preaching at age 30. He died young, at age 33½, unjustly crucified for deeds he did not commit. He had no family, he personally wrote no books or lessons to be handed down through the ages, yet his life and his death are the most celebrated in all of history. Why? Because he changed human destiny! How could the change have been good, for 2,000 years later the world seems worse off than ever! His actions and teachings in those short 3½ years of preaching were only the beginning, for he started a new cycle in human history, the results of which will be clearly seen and understood in due time. For now, let’s just take some time and honor the life, death and resurrection of Jesus – the son of God and the Savior of men!
It was over 2,000 years ago that the world changed. As we look back, we can trace the events of Jesus' last week to the fulfilling of many prophecies. The events of what we now call Palm Sunday were a striking beginning to a series of circumstances that showed the value of Jesus and his sacrifice in an unmistakable and inspiring way. This is the story that we tell. Stay with us as we look at Jesus, prophecy and the Jewish Passover and their remarkable correlations.
Ah, Valentine's Day! That day when everyone celebrates LOVE!! The fact of the matter is that one in two marriages end in divorce and countless other “live in” relationships fall apart as well. This translates into a dismal fact – MOST people are less than happy in their relationship. Why? What is missing in all of these broken unions? Are romance and reality compatible in our day? Do people really fall in love? Can we find our own happily ever after? Stay with us as we talk about love, marriage, reality and the Bible!
Happy New Year! It is 2011 and it is a new beginning – at least for the calendar anyway. What is your year going to look like? Do you have any changes planned? Is this the year that you will finally – well, you know, is this the year that you will finally – (now fill in the blank...) With a new year usually comes a review of what has been and a preview of what we would like to have happen. My question to you is this – along with your thinking about changes with your job, your home, your car, your weight, your habits etc., are you thinking about changes in your Godliness – are you thinking about how you can finally really make your faith be stronger and healthier? Stay with us as we talk about our thinking - how it works and how to elevate it to a higher spiritual level!
Yesterday was Christmas – or for some it was a winter holiday that was all about some jolly old man from the North Pole bringing presents to all the kids. There were lights, decorations, trees, gifts, food, family, fun and football – and everyone presumably had a good time. The only thing missing? Jesus, the real reason for the season! He may have been out of the loop in a lot of places yesterday, but I can assure you, Jesus has been found and will be heard about for the next two hours! Stay with us as we look at and celebrate the Real Christmas - its drama, its inspiration and its hope. This morning we will present a six-chapter story to you about Jesus’ birth and the events that surrounded it.
Humans are emotional beings. As this is the case, we want things – we don’t just have an instinctual magnetism towards certain things, we truly desire them. The Tenth Commandment said, “Thou shalt not covet.” Does this mean that the seemingly inborn trait to desire is wrong – against God’s Law? If it is wrong, then why is it built into each of us? Stay with us as we try to truly understand human “coveting” and the role it plays – or doesn’t play - in our Christian lives.
Thanksgiving! It is a word that for most conjures up images of a holiday – as a matter of fact, it was this past Thursday. It conjures up food, family and friends, it conjures up overeating, football, and a day off; and hopefully, it conjures up...well, hopefully it conjures up thanksgiving! You know, the act of giving thanks – the act of gratitude. Now, with that somewhat novel thought of actual gratitude in our minds, we need to focus on the recipient of this gratitude. Stay with us as we talk about true heart-felt gratitude and the life-changing results of giving such gratitude!
There are some things that most everyone has in common. One of those things is our collective desire to celebrate. Granted, what we celebrate and the ways that we choose to celebrate are as varied as the seasons, but the desire to celebrate is a common thread. Today is one of those days where lots of people celebrate. It is Halloween and, believe it or not, it is not only the second most commercialized holiday in America, only being outspent by Christmas, half of all homes in America are decorated for the occasion. What is Halloween anyway? Where did it come from and what is the secret of its popularity? Stay with us as we examine some history, some tradition and the Bible!
Today is a day unique in America, for history tells us that it was 234 years ago on this day that a group of men gathered in Philadelphia and approved the final draft of a declaration that would dramatically change their lives and eventually change the world. That Declaration of Independence would mark America as a symbol of liberty and freedom across the globe to which people from the farthest corners of the world would line up to be a part of. We want to look at the value of freedom as well as the role that God has played in America.
