On July 4 we celebrate Independence Day, a day that for over 200 years has symbolized all that is good about these United States of America. How did the United States become such a modern day beacon of freedom over the last several hundred years? Is this country still the same beacon of the same freedom or has something changed?
Today is Mother’s Day, a day to stop, think about and honor the role that motherhood plays in our lives. Be sure to express your gratitude to the mothers in your lives! Now, on this day that we honor motherhood we also want to look into the Bible’s treatment of womanhood. It sure seems like the Scriptures make women second class citizens. Is this true? Does the Bible in any way advocate for women?
It was 2,000 years ago today, early in the morning, that the world changed. It was not the brash outward change of a military coup, nor was it a treaty of the leaders of great nations to be lauded by the people. The world did not change because of some medical breakthrough or some magnificent discovery. No. The world changed because there was one tomb, just one tomb that was empty. It was a borrowed tomb, given to a man who had no earthly possession and who just three days previous, had been cruelly and unjustly tortured and crucified. This tomb was empty and that meant that nothing would ever be the same…
Today is a special day, for it was on this day over 2,000 years ago Jesus rode into Jerusalem to the adoration of the crowd. This would begin the final series of events that would lead to his death. Today is another anniversary as well, for it was on this day over 1,400 years before Jesus came, all of Israel was to take a lamb into their homes in preparation for the Passover and their miraculous delivery from slavery. Now, either this is a startling coincidence or it is a startling revelation of God’s plans and purposes...guess which answer we agree with?
Love, marriage, tradition and happiness. As time goes on, these four timeless elements of our world seem to be drifting ever further apart from each other. It is almost as if we are at a point where we are not really sure what to believe in or how to believe in it. Well, stay with us because on this program, we are going to look at the tradition – the godly institution of marriage as a proven vehicle that carries with it love and happiness…love and happiness! Isn’t that what we all want?
Happy New Year! Happy new beginning! Happy new opportunity to resolve to make changes in your life once and for all, only to be shot down later by the steady force of habit, life and expectations later…wait a minute...that’s not happy! The truth is, for most of us a new year and a new beginning spells disaster and defeat. How can we approach change in a way that offers different results? Well, stay with us – we have a few ideas and a textbook (the Bible!) to back them up!
'Tis the season to be jolly! Christmas happened just a few days ago so we ask the question, what really happened? Did we have lots to eat – see lots of family and friends – give and receive lots of gifts? Did we smile and laugh and decorate? Did we watch Christmas specials and listen to all kinds of holiday music? I hope we did! I hope we took the time to reconnect with a spirit of love, life and giving. I hope we entered into the happiness that this season brings! Now the big question – how did we recognize the true reason for the season – how did we honor the life to change all lives? Well, if you are looking for more of that part of things, stick around – we have a story to tell!!!
Thanksgiving has come and gone. All that remains are leftovers from a great meal, the memories of family and friends, excitement or disappointment at the result of a football game or two and the results of Black Friday shopping… Was it fun? Yes! Was it worthwhile? Of course! Did our holiday really focus on the true intention of “Thanksgiving?” Hmmm… Thanksgiving is one thing – “Thanks-Living” – well, that is an entirely different story!
In just a few days the costumes will come out, the candy will be distributed, the parties will roar on! The ghosts, the goblins, the skeletons – the superheroes, the princesses, the ballerinas – all will engage in a happy celebration of Halloween – ironically the night where pagan tradition says the veil between the spirit world and our world is thinnest and therefore can be crossed by evil spirits…great! Halloween is based on paganism – Wicca - white witchcraft - is an outgrowth of paganism. So, is Wicca something that we should be afraid of?
We are free. We have liberty. We can speak our minds, make choices about our lives and be an influence on the influencers. Because of these things, we are truly among the most fortunate people to live on this earth today. As a matter of fact we are among the most fortunate people to ever live on this earth. The United States of America grants us these freedoms. How did the founders of this country get so smart?
